London, 24 May 2005...Principal photography is underway in London on BREAKING AND ENTERING written and directed by Anthony Minghella. Previously announced cast members Jude Law, Juliette Binoche, Robin Wright Penn and Vera Farmiga are joined by Martin Freeman, Ray Winstone and Mark Benton in the contemporary drama. The film is a co-production between Miramax Films and The Weinstein Company, the interim name of Bob and Harvey Weinstein's new company.
BREAKING AND ENTERING is Academy Award-winning director Minghella's first original screenplay since his 1991 feature debut, 'Truly Madly Deeply'. Minghella, Sydney Pollack and Timothy Bricknell are producing for Minghella and Pollack's Mirage Enterprises. Colin Vaines and David Greenbaum are overseeing the production on behalf of Miramax Films and The Weinstein Company.
A story about theft, both criminal and emotional, BREAKING AND ENTERING follows a disparate group of long-term Londoners and new arrivals whose lives intersect in the inner-city area of King's Cross. When a landscape architect's state of the art offices in a seedy part of town are repeatedly burgled, his investigations launch him out of the safety of his familiar world.
Jude Law previously worked with Anthony Minghella on 'Cold Mountain' and 'The Talented Mr Ripley', receiving an Academy Award nomination for his performances in both films. Juliette Binoche won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the director's 'The English Patient'. Minghella has also previously worked with cast member Ray Winstone ('Cold Mountain').
American cast members are Robin Wright Penn who became a household name with her starring role in 'Forrest Gump' and was recently seen in 'A Home at the End of the World', and Vera Farmiga who appeared in Jonathan Demme's 'The Manchurian Candidate' and will soon be seen in 'Neverwas' with Aaron Eckhart and Ian McKellen. British actor Martin Freeman ('The Office', 'The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy') will play Jude Law's business partner, Sandy.
BREAKING AND ENTERING's behind-the-scenes team includes production designer Alex McDowell ('Fight Club', 'Minority Report') and cinematographer Benoit Delhomme ('The Scent of Green Papaya, 'Merchant of Venice', 'Cyclo'), line producer Anita Overland ('The Claim', 'A Cock and Bull Story') and Minghella's long-time collaborator, 1st AD, Steve Andrews. Music will be composed by Gabriel Yared ('The English Patient', 'The Talented Mr Ripley', 'Cold Mountain') and Rick Smith and Karl Hyde of the group Underworld.
