7:35 am - ...dreaming (of a life)

Mix 13
…dreaming (of a life)

"Inspired" (not really the best word but it’s the closest one) by being in what I used to call a deep blue funk for quite a stretch of time — which wasn’t being helped by the fact that I felt creatively tapped dry and every mix I attempted ended up aborted. I guess the muse had enough of that thankfully and within the span of about 5 hours this mix was planned and ready for a practice run. With the practice run done and any tweaks noted, another run and it was recorded. From that point, whenever I would feel myself getting a little down, I’d pop this one on.

A couple of old favourites, a couple of rarities and, in my humble opinion, another perfect ending track all wrapped up in a 45 minute duration. …dreaming (of a life) is my new soundtrack for looking forward. May you enjoy it as much as I do.

"Forget Zoloft!
Forget Prozac!
This one will lift you right up without any of those nasty side effects!"

8:40 am - Mix 12 – Gaussian Story Arcs Divided In Drift

Number 12 has a bit of a twist.
This time around it’s comprised of tracks from one artist - I wouldn’t exactly mind if you called it a sampler.
And this time through I offer up a two part sampling of tracks from one of my personal favourite bands: Underworld.
I hope you may enjoy the latest mix entitled Gaussian Story Arcs Divided In Drift

"I’ve been a fan of Underworld for many years and have enjoyed their various incarnations – from art rock to rock band to dance music gods to electronic mainstays with just a hint of jazz and blues. But I must admit that my favourite style/period of theirs was/is when they allow themselves to be more freeform and stream of consciousness and allow their songs plenty of breathing room. This is the style and period I focus on in my first (online) one-artist mix."

5:41 pm - lyrics...

...that i typed down myself from "All These Things (In Me) (Live)". feel free to correct some things, since i could be wrong with a few words and phrases.
i also tried to figure out what the little voice samples said in the way beginning of the song and when it starts at 5:53 into the song. i could be totally wrong with those too. :0
and another thing:

this song kills me with happiness.

I wonder if I can actually post icons here. :/
But I have been making Underworld icons for quite a long while.
I just posted more icons tonight, so I shall link to that entry + samples:

The Underworld icons in that post are from the webcam pictures (5-13-2006 Live), "Two Months Off" PV, and the "Rez/Dark Train" PV.

For more icons of Underworld by me, I have tagged all of the entries including at least one Underworld icon:

Remember to credit me if you use an icon. (As either this username or _____vegaicons (with 5 '_'s).)
Hope you like! x)

9:18 pm - Canon In D(igital)

And so the latest mix, Canon In D(igital), is unveiled. And those of you who are up on your classical compositions will surely not let the joke in the title slip by.

With exclusive mixes of Faithless, Royksopp, Utah Saints and Junior Jack alongside thumpin’ and bumpin’ tracks by Luke Slater, Fluke and more, this one is most definitely meant to be played as loud as you can. What better way to get in the groove before you go out to that nightclub? Or just forget the nightclub and play this and Short Burst! (grin)

In the immortal words of Tom Jones…

“think I betta DANCE now!”

8:08 am - last mixes of 2005

What was going to be my last mix for 2005 suddenly became two.

Let me explain…

I intended to end 2005 on a quiet note, and recorded a mix with that intention in mind. But the day after Thanksgiving, the muse tapped me on my head and said “I’ve got one more for you”. And in about 4 hours I had another mix planned, executed and recorded.

The first mix is entitled Loosely Based On… and it’s a more freeform, less beat oriented mix. For those that may have downloaded one of my previous mixes entitled obscura you may notice a parallel of sorts. While obscura was loosely structured and quite darker in tone, Loosely Based On… keeps the loosely structured execution but has a more majestic and introspective tone. And I got to end a mix with a song that I’d always thought would be a perfect last song.

But then the muse informed me that I wouldn’t go out quite like that, and another mix demanded to be heard. That mix is entitled Short Burst and as the title suggests, it’s a short burst of slammin’ hard house music. Get ready to move with this one, and I won’t fault ya if ya fling a little attitude like the supermodels fling their hair!

What's this business with Underworld's latest material being released on the internet only? Come on, I need something tangible!

Has anyone heard it, yet? How 'bout one of y'alls buys it and reports back to me? Kthx.

9:25 am - Monday Music

It's time for Monday Music

And today it’s the debut of my latest mix entitled Exterminating Angels

DJ Shadow once asked the musical question “What does your soul look like?”

If you pay attention to the different levels (song titles, sample sources, song lyrics, etc.) and peel things back like the proverbial onion skin, you’ll soon find out what MY soul SOUNDS like.

9:13 am - Friday Music - Special Edition

It's time for Friday Music

And today it’s something really special to me. The release of back2mine.
back2mine is my latest mix and is my take on the DMC label compilation series “Back To Mine”

Picture this... The club has ended, you and your mates are still buzzing and the last place you want to go is home to bed. So with a wave of inspiration you declare 'Back to mine!'... On arrival, carry outs in hand, there's a mass scramble for the turntables. You employ a little diplomacy and inform the rabble that it's one on, one off, as you lay down the first platter! Where will it take you next?

In keeping with the same spirit of the series, this 2-part mix is representative of the type of things that I would play after a late night or early morning to friends if we all went “back to mine”
Hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I did making it

You know what? I really love 'Underneath the Radar' and 'Change the Weather' more than anything else they've done. Not that the rest of their discography is terrible...BUT THOSE TWO ARE SO GOOD!

Is that so wrong?

9:56 am - fuji rock

greets all

as both first post and gift to all interested, here's something that may be nostalgic for you

as you may remember/already have, you can download the concert that underworld did in japan for the fuji rock festival at underworldlive
and as you may have noticed, on the everything everything DVD there is footage from that concert

so, as a personal project about 3 years ago, i made a "trailer" for the (pretend) live album of the fuji rock concert using audio of the show from underworldlive and video from the DVD
(this is right after darren left the band, therefore he's in the promo piece)

took in the footage into my computer, sliced, diced, julienned, overlayed, texted, filtered and did all sorts of other things and the endproduct emerged
i still enjoy it and hopefully you will too

anyways, cheers

always loved a film

Download Fuji Rock Festival Live 1999

NB. supposedly (according to the rules at YouSendIt) this file will be stored for 7 days, so this is a limited time offer

This may be old news to you guys, but I just found this out tonight. Underworld apparently designed a pair of Adidas for their music series they're doing right now. They also have some designed by Red Hot Chili Peppers, Missy Elliot, Roc-a-Fella records, and some others. Anyway here's some screenshots I snagged off the Adidas site for you guys:
